Help & InfoAftercare & Recovery

Treatment finished. Recovery continues.

Your response after treatment can vary depending on the session, the area treated and your individual needs. Use this page as a general reminder — and follow the personalised advice given by your Redwood practitioner first.

The basics

Four principles.
No one-size-fits-all routine.

Aftercare should support the treatment you actually received. These general principles are deliberately simple so they don’t override treatment-specific guidance.

01

Let your response guide you

Some people feel immediately settled; others notice temporary tenderness, skin sensitivity or awareness of a treated area. Pay attention to how you feel rather than forcing a fixed recovery schedule.

02

Keep your routine sensible

There is no need for an extreme “detox” or recovery routine. Eat normally, keep normally hydrated and give yourself time to settle after your appointment.

03

Treat the area gently

Avoid unnecessary rubbing, scratching or aggressive self-treatment while an area feels sensitive, particularly after cupping or skin-based treatment.

04

Ask rather than guess

If you are uncertain about exercise, skin care, marks or a response you did not expect, contact Redwood and tell us which treatment you had.

Treatment-specific advice

Find the guidance that
matches your session.

These reminders are intentionally separated because massage, cupping and Hijama do not all require the same aftercare.

01Sports Massage

Let comfort guide your return to activity.

Temporary tenderness or increased awareness of a treated area can occur. Return to training or strenuous activity according to how you feel and any guidance given during your session. Avoid repeatedly pressing or aggressively self-treating an area that feels sensitive.

02Dry / Fire Cupping

Marks can be normal. Treat the skin gently.

Circular marks or temporary colour changes can occur and may remain visible for several days. Avoid scratching or scrubbing a sensitive area. Contact Redwood if you notice an unexpected skin reaction, blistering or anything that concerns you.

03Wet Cupping Hijama

Skin care matters more after Hijama.

Because Hijama involves small superficial openings in the skin, follow the dressing, cleansing and skin-care instructions given at your appointment. Keep the area clean and avoid picking or scratching it.

04Massage + Cupping

Use both sets of relevant reminders.

A combined session can leave both soft tissue and cupped areas feeling different afterwards. Follow the massage and cupping guidance that applies to the areas treated, plus any specific advice given on the day.

05Performance Session

Your aftercare depends on what was actually used.

Performance Sessions are assessment-led and can use different treatment tools. Follow the personalised guidance given at the end of your appointment rather than assuming every session has the same recovery plan.

06Gold Recovery Package

Follow the guidance for each technique you received.

The Gold Package can combine multiple treatments, including Hijama. Follow the relevant instructions for every technique used, with any skin-care guidance taking particular priority where Hijama formed part of the session.

What happens next?

Know the difference between an expected response and something that needs attention.

There is no single “normal” response after every treatment, but there are useful distinctions between temporary treatment responses and symptoms that deserve further advice.

Often temporary

Things you may notice

  • Temporary muscular tenderness after hands-on work
  • Circular marks or colour changes after cupping
  • Local skin sensitivity around a treated area
  • A need to adjust activity according to comfort
Contact Redwood

If you are unsure

  • Your response is different from what was discussed
  • You are unsure about training or activity
  • You have questions about cupping marks or skin care
  • You need the practitioner to repeat your individual aftercare instructions
Seek appropriate medical advice

For concerning symptoms

Seek medical advice for severe, worsening or unexplained symptoms. After Hijama, seek advice for persistent bleeding or signs of infection such as spreading redness, increasing warmth, swelling, discharge, fever or feeling unwell.

Take it with you

A printable reminder.
Without pretending every treatment is the same.

The Redwood Aftercare & Recovery Guide starts with general principles, then separates the advice by treatment. Print it, save it to your phone or keep it somewhere handy after your appointment.

Your practitioner’s advice comes first. If you receive more specific instructions during your appointment, use those instead of the general guide.
